General Conditions
Location
Jeollanam-do is located in the middle of the south-western area and the north-eastern area of Korean Peninsula . In the east, the Sobaek Mountains divides it from Gyeongnam and in the west, the Noryeong Mountains divides it from Jeonbuk.
Natural Environment
The configuration of ground is high in the east and the north and low in the west and the south. The east is higher than the north and the south-west coast forms the ria coast.
The south-west archipelago with small and large gulfs and 1,969 beautiful islands consists of 62% of all islands in Korea .
In addition, the rivers flowing to the south-west and north-west area are divided into three tributaries, such as Yeongsan River , Seomjin River and Tamjin River , and contribute to make fertile farmland as forming the broad granary area in the river valley.
Weather
The difference of temperature is significant because of the coast, islands and inland mountains. While the long coastal lines and broad areas bounded by sea makes the marine climate, the inland mountainous area shows much different climate from areas along the coast and has continental climate.
The average temperature in the south coast area in January is 0 ∼ 2 . The precipitation varies on areas, and its annual average is 1,200 ∼ 1,500mm.

Beautiful Islands and Muddy Tideland in Dadohae
Dadohae consists of 1,969 small and large islands such as Geomundo, Narodo, Wando, Bogildo, Jindo, Dochodo, Bigeumdo, Heuksando and Hongdo from the sea in front of Yeosu. The coasting such as cliffs and caves with fantastic rocks and stones made by erosion of the sea for a long time is developed. Exuberant subtropical plants create astonishing scenes with mild marine climate.
Natural muddy tideland evenly distributed all over the south-west Dadohae is one of the four muddy tidelands in the world. In particular, according to the recent research, lots of germanium in the muddy tideland stimulates the formation of interferon, substance to activate the living body, and so is effective to suppress cancerous cells, toxic substances and virus.
